Amoxil (Amoxicillin)

THE USE OF THE MEDICINE

Amoxil is used to treat infections caused by organisms that are susceptible to amoxicillin. Common infections, against which amoxicillin is used, include infection of the middle ear, tonsils, pharynx, larynx (laryngitis), bronchi (bronchitis), lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract and skin. It is also used to treat gonorrhea.

INDICATIONS FOR USE

For most infections in adults for Amoxil dosing regimens are 250 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 12 hours or 875 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of infection.

For the treatment of adults with gonorrhea dosage of 3 g per use.
For most infections, children older than 3 months but less than 40 kg are treated with 25 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 12 hours, 20 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 8 hours, 40 mg / kg / day receiving every 8 hours or 45 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 12 hours depending on the type and severity of infection.

THE MECHANISM OF ACTION

Amoxil is an antibiotic that belongs to a class of antibiotics called penicillins.

These antibiotics have a similar mechanism of action. They do not kill bacteria, but they prevent their proliferation, preventing the emergence of new bacteria, forming the walls that surround them. The walls needed to protect the bacteria from the environment, preserve the contents of the bacterial cell together. Bacteria cannot survive without a cell wall.

Amoxil is effective against different bacteria, including H. influenza, N. gonorrhea, E. coli, pneumococci, streptococci and some strains of staphylococci.

MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose of Amoxil, take it as soon as possible. If at this point it is time for the next dose, skip the dose of rejection and return to your normal schedule the reception. Do not take the 2 doses at once.

STORAGE

Store Amoxil capsules as well as 125 and 250 mg dry powder at or below 20 degrees Celsius, tablets, chewable tablets, and 200 and 400 mg dry powder at or below 25 degrees Celsius
